NO-GOSSIP Challenge for Schools
Gossip is a form of bullying and relational aggression that pits students against one another. It can be a serious problem in a students social life. From grammar school to universities, gossip is a pervasive problem doing tremendous damage to students and campus dynamics.
Studies of peer exclusion have shed a light on the harmful effects of gossip and the way these behaviors impact students of any age. Social exclusion by peers can keep students from adequately growing both socially and academically. Those who are verbally or psychologically targeted by classmates may start attempting to avoid their classrooms or schools altogether. These actions, taken to spare themselves the pain of dealing with gossip and exclusion, ultimately affect their academics, future success and stability in an adverse way.
It is vitally important to find ways to deal with campus harmful gossip and challenge it where it lives. Emerging research suggests that addressing this issue may hold the key to changing this harmful habit and toxic culture in schools, which can lead to serious destruction.
